Description |
Obv: Bust of Washington facing left, a laurel wreath on his head. The engraver's name LUTZ is in small letters on the truncation. Thirteen stars surround the bust with the legend BORN FEBRUARY 22, 1732, above and DIED DECEMBER 14, 1799 below. Denticles around the rim. Rev: A view of the monument with the sun emanating rays in the background and thirty-eight perches at the juncture of six crossed flags. Below is the legend, CORNERSTONE AND LAID JULY 4, 1848, DEDICATED FEB 21, 1885. Denticles around the rim. |
